Macchi M.5 7068, build number 1354, was #5 in 260a Squadriglia based in Venice. On 19 november 1917, less than three weeks after the unit was formed, 2° capo Daniele Minciotti chased two enemies for too long running out of fuel and being captured with his plane.
The Macchi has been then repainted and eagery flown by Austrians. It was based at Santa Caterina.
On 23 February 1918, while flying over Trieste harbor, it went into a spin and crashed vclose to the Servella pier. Its pilot was Fähnrich in der Reserve, Matrosenkorps, Friedrich Welker. He did not survive the wounds.
